Lewis Carroll (Charles Dodgson) was a mathematician at Oxford when he wrote Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and apparently wrote it as a satire of mathematical movements at the time. I don’t find algebra particularly scintillating, but this article is pretty interesting. And to think, I just thought Carroll was high all of the time.
